A Lake City man will serve more than 17 years in federal prison after a judge in Sioux City sentenced him Thursday for meth trafficking and illegally possessing a firearm.
Prosecutors say 34-year-old Clayton Brown played a central role in an eight‑month meth distribution ring in 2025, moving at least four pounds of the drug across western Iowa. According to court records, Brown twice sold more than 80 grams of pure meth to a confidential informant in October 2025. When officers searched his home, they found a Glock handgun, meth, marijuana, cash and other evidence of drug dealing.
Brown’s criminal history was a major factor in the sentence. Federal documents show he had seven prior felony convictions — including drug offenses and two high‑speed eluding cases — which barred him from possessing firearms. Investigators say Brown continued dealing despite those restrictions. The gun recovered in his home triggered the additional federal charge.
U.S. District Judge Leonard T. Strand sentenced Brown to 210 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release. Brown will remain in U.S. Marshal custody until he is transferred to a federal prison.
The case was handled by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa DCI Laboratory and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
