Ida County Family to Receive Good Farm Neighbor Award

The Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award will be presented to a local family this coming week.

The award will be given to Jolene Riessen and her sons, who are the owners of LeeCorr Inc, on Tuesday, August 9th at 11am in Holstein. The award will be presented by Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig.

The Wergin Good Farm Neighbor Award is made possible by the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers. The award recognizes Iowa livestock farmers who take pride in caring for the environment, their livestock, and being good neighbors.

The Riessen family farm is based outside of Ida Grove. The farm has been in the Riessen family for 80 years. It is owned and operated by Jolene Riessen and her sons, Cory and Lee. Jolene’s husband Jeff was also heavily involved in the operation prior to his passing three years ago. The family grows corn, soybeans, and alfalfa. They also have a cow-calf operation, and a feedlot.

The Riessen farm has implemented a variety of conservation practices including waterways, terraces, and no-till. They were one of the first families in Ida County to use Natural Resources Conservation Service Environmental Quality Incentives Program funding to improve their feedlot.
