Grinding of Storm Tree Debris Underway; Mulch Available for Public

A contractor is beginning work today (Mon) grinding approximately ten thousand cubic yards of tree debris collected from the April 18th straight-line windstorm in Storm Lake.
According to information from The City of Storm Lake, the work will take place at the Discovery Center parking lot, which will be barricaded off for safety during the grinding process. Afterward, a portion of the wood mulch will be retained at the site. Residents may take mulch for free to use in their yard.
The Discovery Center site is now closed to additional tree debris drop-off.
Grinding will also take place at the City’s burn site near 630th Street, and at the Buena Vista County Recycling Center’s yard debris site. Grinding is expected to be complete within a couple of days.
The City has hired the contractor, utilizing a state-negotiated contract in place for just such disaster cases.
The cost of the grinding is currently estimated at close to 50 thousand dollars.
