Fort Dodge Man Sentenced in Bomgaars Forgery Scheme

A Fort Dodge man has been sentenced to prison for a forgery scheme that stretched across multiple Bomgaars stores in northwest Iowa.

Forty‑year‑old Duke Davis was sentenced May 1 in Buena Vista County District Court to up to five years in prison after being convicted of forgery, a Class D felony.

The case began Jan. 8, when the Storm Lake Police Department was alerted to suspicious charges made to an area business’s account. Investigators say Davis — who was no longer employed by the business — entered multiple Bomgaars locations in northwest Iowa and charged merchandise to his former employer’s account without authorization.

Police say Davis also forged another employee’s signature during the transactions. The fraudulent purchases totaled more than $7,300 across at least five stores in central and northwest Iowa.

Storm Lake police led the investigation, and the case was prosecuted by Buena Vista County Attorney Paul Allen.
