Five Sioux Central sophomores took part in the Iowa Youth Institute on April 8, presenting research on global food‑security challenges and proposing solutions to issues facing countries around the world.
Students each selected a country, identified a specific food‑insecurity problem, and shared their findings with peers and agricultural experts during the statewide event. Their participation qualifies them for a scholarship to the Iowa State University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
Participant Violet Sangwin said the experience offered a chance to hear from speakers about building knowledge for the future. Fellow student Kayley Hermstad said she appreciated learning from others’ ideas and approaches to addressing hunger in different parts of the world.
The Iowa Youth Institute is part of the World Food Prize Foundation’s statewide programming aimed at engaging students in global food and agriculture issues.
