BVU Announces This Year’s Artist in Residence; Free Event Scheduled Open to Public

Buena Vista University has announced its 2024 Artist in Residence.

Alex Maher will be on campus from April 8th through the 19th. Maher will interact with BVU students and share his expertise. Maher is a Senior Character Artist at Walt Disney World. He has over 30 years of experience working as a Disney artist and illustrator.

A “Celebrating The Art of Storytelling” event will be held on Friday, April 12th at 7pm in the BVU Art Gallery. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees will get to view Maher’s exhibit “Capturing Character” which features his Disney illustrations alongside artwork by BVU art and animation students while enjoying Disney tunes played by the BVU Jazz Combo. Maher will teach guests how to draw a Disney character. Original character drawings and a special sculpture will be auctioned off at the end of the evening. Funds raised from the auction will go to support BVU School of Liberal Arts students on their storytelling projects.

BVU’s Artist in Residence program seeks to unite students, innovators, and creators from a wide variety of fields. The program launched in the spring of 2021.
