A building in Spencer was heavily damaged by a fire yesterday (Mon).
According to a news release by Spencer Fire Rescue, the department and other agencies were called to 3601 4th Avenue West shortly before noon yesterday (Mon) for smoke rolling out from under the doors of the building. Heavy smoke was showing from the exterior of the building. Firefighters made entry through a front door to attack the fire and after a few minutes, they were removed from the structure’s interior due to the fire burning through the roof. Firefighters then opened the plywood ceiling from the doorway to gain access to the attic and extinguish the fire.
The building sustained extreme fire damage to the attic structure and heavy smoke and water damage to the building’s contents. Due to fire damage in the attic space, a full fire investigation could not be completed. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Responders were on the scene for nearly five hours.
