Authorities in Nebraska say a Storm Lake man was killed in a two-vehicle crash last night on Highway 77 in South Sioux City.
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office reports 38-year-old Nei Doh Htoo of Storm Lake was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of the Kingsbury Interchange around 8:07 p.m. when his car collided head-on with a Jeep Compass. Htoo’s vehicle caught fire in the engine compartment following the crash. He died at the scene.
The Jeep was driven by 32-year-old Elsa Pena-Lopez of Dakota City, Neb., who was traveling with her 4-year-old son. Pena-Lopez was treated and released at a Sioux City hospital. Her son was flown to Children’s Hospital in Omaha, Neb., where he remains in critical condition.
Multiple rescue units from Dakota County, South Sioux City, Sioux City, and Sergeant Bluff assisted at the scene. Southbound Highway 77 was closed for several hours last night as crews cleared the wreckage.
