A total of 41 Iowa communities, including a few in the area, are receiving grants through Alliant Energy’s Community Tree Planting program, which is part of its “One Million Trees” initiative.
The City of Alta is receiving 49-hundred dollars for a right-of-way tree-planting project that will include local high school volunteers.
The City of Laurens is getting 25-hundred dollars for a tree-planting project at a new recreational complex with volunteers from Hometown Pride.
The City of Rolfe was awarded nearly 33-hundred dollars for a tree-planting effort led by Rolfe Hometown Pride that will focus on several rights-of way and City Parks with student volunteers from the library.
Alliant partners with Trees Forever on the program. Nearly 145-thousand dollars of grants are being distributed in this latest round. Some communities will begin planting trees this spring, while others will wait until the fall. Iowa communities are eligible to apply for grants up to five-thousand dollars to fund new trees.
