Applications Open for Buena Vista County Conservation Board Seat

Buena Vista County is seeking residents interested in serving on the county’s conservation board, with applications now open for a five‑year term beginning Jan. 1, 2027.

The five‑member volunteer board oversees conservation, parks, outdoor recreation, natural resource management and environmental education throughout Buena Vista County. Members help set policy, establish short‑ and long‑term goals, oversee expenditures, adopt rules and regulations, enter into contracts and employ a director to carry out board programs. The board operates as an independent county entity under Chapter 350 of the Iowa Code.

Meetings are generally held the second Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m. at the conservation board office near Peterson, though dates and locations may change. Board members are appointed by the Buena Vista County Board of Supervisors and must be county residents with a demonstrated interest in conservation matters. Members serve without pay but may be reimbursed for official expenses.

A board member duty description and application form are available at the conservation board office, the Buena Vista County Auditor’s Office, or online through the county’s job openings page. Completed applications may be mailed to the conservation board at 377 440th St., Peterson, IA 51047, or emailed to office@bvcountyparks.com.

Applications are due by 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2026.

For more information, residents may contact the Buena Vista County Conservation Board at 712‑295‑7985 or office@bvcountyparks.com.
