Tornadoes Blast Off In First Half–Advance To Sub State Final

The Storm Lake boys basketball team used a 17-0 run in the opening quarter building a 30-6 lead after the first eight minutes and that led to an 82-36 rout in their semifinal win over visiting Algona.

Jaidyn Coon led four players in double figures scoring 23, Cam Boyd had 17, Garbieno Weno and Trey Boettcher scored 14 points a piece, and David William added eight points.

Storm Lake made 33-of-58 shots for 57-percent shooting and limited Algona to 31-percent shooting. The Tornadoes took care of the ball too with only six turnovers.

The Tornadoes, now 22-2, will host Sergeant Bluff-Luton (18-6) Monday night at 7pm with the winner advancing to the State Tournament. S-B-L beat Bishop Heelan 54-47 in their sub state semifinal. Click below to hear from Coon and head coach Evan Franzmeier.
