Tornado Teams Split With Spencer

The Storm Lake basketball teams hosted the Spencer Tigers for make up games Monday night at Tornado Fieldhouse with the Spencer girls winning 55-41 while the Tornado boys won 68-27.

For the Storm Lake boys it was their 16th straight Lakes Conference win as they finish a perfect 8-0 in conference games. Cam Boyd scored 16 of his game high 22 points in the first half, Garbieno Weno had 15 points and a ton of rebounds as the Tornadoes won the rebounding battle by 13. Trey Boettcher and Jayden Butler each made three 3-pointers for their nine points.

The Tornadoes led 38-9 at the half and the game went to a continuous clock with just under six minutes to play in the 3rd quarter.

In the 16 game conference winning stream the Storm Lake boys trailed for only 10 minutes total out of those 16 games and won by an average of 30 points.

The 3rd ranked Tornadoes are now 17-2 and will host South Central Calhoun Thursday night. Click below to hear from Tornado head coach Evan Franzmeier.

The Storm Lake girls got off to a great start leading 17-3 after the 1st quarter but would end up losing the game 55-41. The Tigers held the Tornadoes without a field goal in the 2nd quarter and outscored Storm Lake 21-2 in that quarter.

Avery DeHaan was 5-of-10 from the arc and scored a team high 18 points. Grace Kenkel added 13. Storm Lake finishes the regular season with a record of 10-10.
