Tornado Softball And Baseball Teams Swept By Spencer

Jaxson Hefner threw a no hitter and the Spencer Tiger baseball team beat Storm Lake 11-0 in five innings in a Lakes Conference game played Friday night in Storm Lake.

Hefner, who entered the game with an 0-2 record on the season, struck out five and walked two. Charlie Dvergsten started the game on the mound for Storm Lake and was knocked out of the game in the 3rd and he suffered his first loss of the year (now 4-1). The Tigers sent eleven batters to the plate in a six run 2nd inning and they finished the game with nine hits.

Dvergsten and reliever Edgar Berreiro combined to walk five batters and hit three. The only base runners for Storm Lake in the game were Brody Boeckman, who drew a two out walk in the 2nd inning and Hunter DeMey who led off the 5th with a walk.

Spencer improves to 11-5 overall and 3-2 in the conference. Storm Lake falls to 16-5 overall and 3-2 in the Lakes. The Tornadoes next game will be Tuesday when they host Algona.

The Storm Lake softball team lost to the Tigers 4-1. Storm Lake is now 14-2 overall and is scheduled to play, weather permitting, two games Saturday at the Le Mars Gehlan tournament.
