Tornado Boys Prevail In Substate Final

In front of a packed Siebens Fieldhouse the Storm Lake boys basketball team beat Sergeant Bluff-Luton 66-53 and with that they will now make a return trip to Des Moines next week.

It was another strong start for the Tornadoes who led 39-13 at the half. Cam Boyd and Jaidyn Coon scored 18 points each, and Trey Boettcher, who knocked down four 3-pointers, added 14 to lead the Tornadoes in scoring.

S-B-L would make a charge in the 2nd half as they made four 3-pointers in the 3rd quarter and pulled within 17 heading into the final quarter. They would pull within eleven at 62-51 with 1:22 to go but Coon ended any hope of a miracle comeback with an emphatic dunk to ice the game.

S-B-L concludes their year with a record of 18-7. Storm Lake is now 23-2 and will have to wait until tonight to find out who they play in the first round Monday, March 9th. Click below to hear the extended post game with all 17 players and all five coaches.
