Storm Lake vs. Newell-Fonda Hoops Recap

The Newell-Fonda girls basketball team improved to 7-0 on the year thanks to a 70-33 win over Storm Lake Tuesday night in Newell. The Mustangs buried eleven 3-pointers in the game and had four players score in double figures with Ellie Sievers and Rylee Hogrefe scoring 15 points each, Mareni Brabec had 13, and Quinn Sievers chipped in with ten.

The Mustangs outscored Storm Lake 17-2 in the 2nd quarter to build a 37-14 lead at the half.

The Tornadoes were led by Avery DeHaan’s 13 points. Storm Lake, now 4-6 overall, will play Friday at Le Mars and the Mustangs will host Pocahontas Area Friday night.

The Storm Lake boys moved their record to 7-0 with a 86-33 win over the Mustangs. The Tornadoes shot 62-percent for the game including knocking down 17-of-21 2nd half shots.

Cam Boyd scored 20 points including the 1,000th point of his career. Jaidyn Coon scored a game high 23 and Timothy Yanga added 14.

The Mustangs, now 3-4 overall, were led by Jacksyn Hogrefe’s 13 points. The Mustangs have a makeup game Thursday at Humboldt. Storm Lake plays again Friday at Le Mars.
