The Storm Lake boys basketball team stayed unbeaten thanks to a 79-49 win Friday night at Le Mars. The Tornadoes went on a 35-7 run over the last four minutes of the 2nd quarter and the first three minutes of the 3rd quarter to blow the game open.
Jaidyn Coon made 6-of-7 shots in the 3rd quarter and scored 14 of his game high 21 points in that stanza leading the Tornadoes to their 8th win in as many games. Cam Boyd had 19, Timothy Yanga added 16 and Trey Boettcher scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half.
After making only 1-of-8 shots in the first half Coon ended up 8-of-17 from the floor while taking a beating from a Bulldog team that was being physical with all of the Tornadoes in the first half. Click below to hear from Coon and head coach Evan Franzmeier.
Storm Lake will play in the “Border Battle” at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls Saturday night against Sioux Falls-Christian who won the Class A State championship last year in South Dakota and Thursday night beat a Unity Christian team that is ranked #1 in Class 2A in the state of Iowa.
The game has an approximate start time of 7pm and it will be broadcast on Mix 101.7 KAYL.
The Storm Lake girls lost a close game to Le Mars 44-41. Dikaia Dahlhauser tied the game at 41-41 with two minutes to go but the Tornadoes were unable to score after that as their season record falls to 4-7.
Avery DeHaan scored 13 points and Grace Kenkel was also in double figures adding eleven. The Tornadoes will host Ridge View Monday night at Tornado Fieldhouse. Click below to hear from head coach Nate Reichter.
