Cam Boyd threw five touchdown passes, three to Rylan Richardson, and Storm Lake beat Denison-Schleswig 39-13 in the season opener for both teams in a game played Friday night in Storm Lake.
The Tornadoes had 215 yards of offense in the first half while the defense gave up only nine yards and Storm Lake took a 27-0 lead into the locker room.
Storm Lake scored on four of their first five possessions in the first half, Boyd threw a 4-yard TD pass to Richardson to get the green and white on the board. He then connected with freshman Jay William on a 17 yard pass. His second connection with Richardson was an eleven yard strike to make it 21-0. Marco Cortes-Oropeza scored on a nine yard run with under two minutes to go in the half to increase the lead.
Boyd’s night was not done as he connected with David William on a 53 yard TD pass and Richardson hauled in a beautiful 30 yard reception for the Tornadoes final score.
Boyd was 16-of-24 for 236 yards and one pick. David William had a team high eight receptions for 162 yards. Each team had one turnover and Jorge Reyes blocked a punt for Storm Lake.
Storm Lake will play again Friday, September 5th at Council Bluffs-Thomas Jefferson.
