Storm Lake Basketball vs. Cherokee Recap 12-16-25

Cam Boyd scored a career high 34 points helping Storm Lake beat Cherokee 87-67 at Tornado Fieldhouse Tuesday night.

Boyd made 15-of-25 shots including 4-for-6 from the arc. Jaidyn Coon scored 21 points while David William and Garbieno Weno added ten points a piece. Storm Lake shot 54-percent from the floor making 37-of-68 shots.

Cherokee was led in scoring by Jaxon Paulsrud who tallied 23 points. Coy Lewis who came into the game averaging 17 points was held to four points.

The first half was more like a track meet instead of a basketball game as both teams were up and down the floor and the Tornadoes led 54-38 at the break. The Tornadoes made 12-of-18 shots in the 2nd quarter but were still outscored in that frame 27-25 as the Braves caught fire from the arc making 6-of-14 shots from downtown in the first half.

Boyd, who surpassed his previous career high of 30 points, needs 31 points to reach one-thousand in his Tornado career.

Cherokee falls to 4-1 overall while the Tornadoes are now 5-0 and off to a 2-0 start in the Lakes Conference. Click below to hear from Boyd and Storm Lake head coach Evan Franzmeier.

The Cherokee girls (ranked 3rd in class 3A) defeated Storm Lake 64-41. Deidra Doeden scored 20 points and Addy Wolfswinkel added 19 helping the Braves stay unbeaten on the year at 5-0.

Avery DeHaan scored a team high 16 points as the Tornadoes fall to 3-4 on the year. Click below to hear from head coach Nate Reichter.
