The Spencer Tiger soccer teams swept past the Storm Lake Tornadoes with the 3A #6 Spencer boys defeating Storm Lake 2-1, and 2A #12 Spencer girls defeating Storm Lake 10-0.
The boy’s game saw the Tornadoes strike first in a windy first half when Javier Najera connected with 23:29 to go to give the Tornadoes the 1-0 lead. The teams would both lock in on defense, however the Tigers would find the back of the net. The Tiger goal came off a header goal from Cayden Brewer to tie the game at 1 with 2:26 to go in the half. The teams would go into the half-tied at 1. In the second half, the teams would trade near misses. The Tigers would miss an empty net chance after making one pass too many, which allowed the Tornado defense to recover. Later in the half, the Tornadoes would clobber a kick off the post. The Tigers would find the game-winning goal when Camden Mosher connected in the 18 to make 2-1 with 15:29 to go. The Tornado would have a strong push late but the Tiger defense would hold en route to a 2-1 win.
The Tigers improved to 8-0 (5-0 in one-goal games, all 2-1 scores), the Tigers at 1A #6 Western Christian on Thursday night. The Tornadoes fell to 4-4, the Tornadoes play on Friday night at Denison-Schleswig (a game that will be broadcast on KAYL).
The Storm Lake Girls team played host to 2A #12 Spencer and fell 10-0. The Tigers would collect 9 goals in the first half en route to a 9-0 lead at the half. The Tigers would score 1 goal in the second half to win 10-0. The Tigers were led by a 5 goal effort from Addison Hoben. The Tigers improve to 7-2 (now a 5-game winning streak), up next the Tigers play host to Western Christian on Thursday night. The Tornadoes would fall to 1-6, up next the Tornadoes play host to Denison-Schleswig on Friday night.
