Ridge View and Sioux Central basketball teams split doubleheader in 2024 opener

–The Ridge View Raptors and the Sioux Central Rebels split a doubleheader in Holstein Tuesday night with the Rebel girls winning 67-33, and the Raptor boys winning 53-41.

–The girls game saw the Raptors jump out to a 3-2 lead thanks to a Madison Stowater three-pointer. The Rebels would answer with a stout 19-2 run to end the opening frame of 2024 leading 22-5. The Rebels would lead by as many as 23 in the second quarter before the Raptors clawed back within 15 late in the quarter. The Rebels would take a 36-17 lead into the half. The Rebels would open the second half on a 19-3 run and never look back en route to a 67-33 win.

The win improves the Rebels to 9-1, and the loss drops the Raptors to 4-6. The Rebels were led in scoring by Bradi Krager with 20 points (Mark Hansen’s Rex Chevrolet/GMC Player of the Game-4/4 Free Throws, 4/4 Three-Pointers) and both Morgan Christian/Avery Wilson had 17 points. The Raptors were led in scoring by Madison Stowater with 16 points. Up next the Rebels play host to West Bend-Mallard on Friday and the Raptors play host to Westwood Friday night.

–The boys game saw a slow start from both teams as the first 3:45 of the game saw the Raptors leading 4-2. The Raptors would continue to play lock-down defense and hold the Rebels off the scoreboard the final 4:15 of the quarter. During that time the Raptors would expand their lead to 17-2 after one. The second quarter saw the Rebels flip the script. The Rebels would cut the lead down to 7 with a swift 11-3 run. The Raptors would hold the advantage at the half leading 26-21. The Raptors would storm out of the halftime break with a 14-4 run to lead 40-25 and would never look back. The closest the Rebels would get would be down 10 in the fourth quarter.

The win improves the Raptors to 5-5, and the loss drops the Rebels to 2-6. The Raptors were led in scoring by Kellen Jensen with 17 points (Mark Hansen’s Rex Chevrolet/GMC Player of the Game) and Zach Kolpin with 14 points. The Rebels were led in scoring by Owen Mills with 20 points, and Koen Glover with 11 points. Up next the Raptors play host to Westwood Friday Night and the Rebels play host to West Bend-Mallard Friday Night.
