Ellie Sievers scored 15 of her team high 18 points in the 2nd half and Quinn Sievers scored 17 helping Newell-Fonda to a 77-58 win over Saint Ansgar in the quarterfinal round of the girls 1A State Tournament in Des Moines.
The Mustangs, now 23-2, scored 36 points off of 32 turnovers by the Saints. The win puts Newell-Fonda into the semifinal round Friday at 3:15pm and they will play Council Bluffs-St. Albert. It will be a rematch of last years championship game that CB-SA won in overtime. The two teams played in the regular season January 13th at Council Bluffs and the Mustangs won 51-47.
St. Albert, now 22-3, won their quarterfinal game over Exira-EHK 45-37. They out-rebounded Exira by 26 and had 25 offensive rebounds.
