South O’Brien Holds on to Defeat Alta Aurelia

South O’Brien was victorious 14-7 over Alta Aurelia in a Week 4 showdown in Paulina.

The Wolverines marched right down the field on the opening drive, 15 plays, 54 yards, in 7:49. On 4th and goal at the 2, Jacob Van Lith scored on a quarterback sneak, and the point after try was missed. Alta Aurelia lost on fumble on their first drive, and South O’Brien went six plays, 32 yards, in 2:08. Van Lith’s 20 yard touchdown pass to Boston Riedemann made it 12-0, as South O’Brien failed on a two point conversion.

The score stayed the same until late in the 1st half. South O’Brien dropped a punt down at the Warriors one yard line, and three plays only gained two yards. The Warriors punt was blocked for a safety to make the score 14-0, and that’s how it stood at halftime.

Alta Aurelia started moving the ball on the 2nd half, but were unable to score until Carson Reinert threw a one yard touchdown pass to Gavin Sleezer with 5:57 remaining, which was set up by a 37 yard run by Caden Stites inside the five. Sleezer’s point after cut the deficit in half. The Warriors defense forced on punt on the ensuing drive, but the punt was mishandled and South O’Brien gained possession at the Warriors 33 with 2:24 left and they ran out the clock.

South O’Brien had 280 yards of offense, and Alta Aurelia gained 206. Alta Aurelia lost the turnover battle four to one. Brechwald completed 12 of 25 passes for 62 yards, and rushed for 55 on ten attempts. Stites had five carries for 84 yards.

Alta Aurelia is now 2-2, and 1-2 in Class A District 1. They play at Hartley Melvin Sanborn next week.
