Mustang–Tornado Basketball Recap

The Newell-Fonda basketball teams hosted Storm Lake Tuesday night and the two teams split the games with the Mustang girls winning 62-47 and the Storm Lake boys won 81-58.

The Mustang girls bolted out to a 38-8 lead midway through the 2nd quarter on the way to their 19th win of the year. Kinzee Hinders scored 17 points, Kierra Jungers added 16, and McKenna Sievers made four 3-pointers for her 12.

Newell-Fonda, the 2nd ranked team in 1A, will have a chance to avenge their only loss of the year Thursday night when they play at an E-L-C team that is now ranked #1 in class 3A.

Storm Lake was led by Adeeya Yanga’s game high 18 points. The Tornadoes, now 12-7, will host Ridge View Thursday at 4:30pm.

The Storm Lake boys scored an 81-58 win over the Mustangs. Jaidyn Coon tied his career high with 28 points, Cam Boyd scored 17, and Justin Guynn chipped in with 15. Storm Lake made 11-of-24 from the arc and shot 53-percent for the game. The win moves their record to 10-7.

Newell-Fonda was led by Eli Roberts’ 17 points and Mason Hoberman added eleven. The Mustangs fall to 11-9 overall and will close out the regular season Thursday night with a game against OA-BCIG.
