Falcon boys fall to Knights in District Final 79-57

In the Class 2A District 4 Final it was the Kuemper Catholic Knights knocking off OABCIG 79-57

The first quarter saw the Knights fly out of the gate. In the first 1:40 of the game the Knights got out to a 9-2 lead highlighted by 5 straight points from Michael Kasperbauer. The Falcons would close down the gap with a nice 9-4 answer to cut the lead to 13-11, the Knights would lead 19-15 after one. In the second the teams would trade baskets for the first three plus minutes of the second. However the Knights would outscore the Falcons 15-4 in the final 4:56 to lead 43-28 at the break.

The third would once again see the Knights extend their lead, this time to 18 in under two minutes of third qurter play. Over the next four minutes again the Falcons would be able to cut the lead back to 10 with an 10-2 run, a Kuemper 50-40 lead. The Knights would lead after three by a score of 55-43. The Falcons would open up the fourth quarter by cutting the lead to single digits at 55-46 with 6:16 to go in the game. However, once again the Knights had the answer, this time a 14-3 run over a two and a half minute stretch to lead 69-49 with 3:41 to go. The Knights would go on to win 79-57.

The win moves Kuemper Catholic to 17-6, and advances them to the Class 2A Substate 2 Final Saturday night where they will battle 2A #4 Sioux Central in Ida Grove (the game will be broadcast on KAYL), the Falcons with the loss wrap up the season at 18-3

The Falcons say goodbye to seven Seniors: Beckett DeJean, Kane Ladwig, Gabe Winterrowd, Kale Ladwig, Griffin Diersen, Kyle Spotts and Treyten Kolar (All the Seniors were the “Wells Ag Supply of Fonda Players of the Game”)

The Falcons were lead by Diersen with 17 points, Beckett DeJean had 12, and Kale Ladwig and Treyten Kolar both had 7. For the Knights they were elad in scoring by Michael Kasperbauer with 21 points, DJ Vonnahme added 14, and Carter Putney had 12 points.
