East Sac County soccer teams split with Carroll

The East Sac County Raider Soccer teams split against the Carroll Tigers, with the girls winning 2-0 and the boys falling 3-2

The girls game saw a scoreless first half as both sides especially the Raiders had great chances to score but could not connect. After the teams went to the half tied at 0, the teams would keep each other scoreless in the early part of the second half. The Raiders would break though when Sarah Bontrager connected on her first goal. The strike hitting the back of the net at 30:01 gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead. The Tigers would have a couple of decent chanes but Danae Thayer would have the answer. The Raiders would extend the lead to 2-0, when Kenna Meyer connected on her seventh goal of the season assisted by Bontrager at 18:07. The Tigers would threaten to score a couple more times but the Raiders would go on to win 2-0. The Raiders are now 2-3, the Tigers fall to 1-9. UP NEXT: The Raiders play Friday (4/28/23) at West Central Valley.

Notables from the girls game: Sarah Bontrager one goal and one assist, Kenna Meyer her seventh goal of the season, Danae Thayer had her first carrer shutout in net, the Raiders score a school record of goals in a game vs Carroll, and this game carries the pattern of a six games in the series have been won via shutout (3-3 series all-time)

The boys game saw the Raiders lead for three-quarters of the game, but end up falling 3-2. Both teams would go toe-to-toe for the first 18 miuntes before the Raiders would break through. The goal scorer was Isaiah Aragon collecting his fourth goal of the season to give the Raiders the 1-0 lead. That score would hold into the halftime break as the Raiders lead 1-0. The second half would again see a long scoreless stretch until the Raiders stretch the lead to 2-0 17 miuntes into the second half. This time it was Luke Wright scoring (his seventh of the season) when the keeper was out of position. Four minutes later the Tigers would erase the lead on back-to-back goal over a two minute and ten second stretch to tie the game at two. The Tigers would collect the dagger at 4:14 to go and went on to win 3-2. The loss drops the Raiders to 1-4, the Tigers imorove to 4-6.
