Great pitching led the Storm Lake softball and baseball teams to wins Thursday at Cherokee. Avery DeHaan struck out 12 and pitched a four-hitter in the Tornadoes 11-2 six inning win over the Braves. Lillie Hoffman had two of the Tornadoes eight hits and Grace Kenkel drove in three runs.
Storm Lake is now 10-2 overall and will play in the OA-BCIG tournament starting Friday afternoon with a game against Carroll. Game time is 2:45pm.
In the baseball game Charlie Dvergsten threw a six-inning no hitter striking out 16 batters and walking only one and the Tornadoes beat Cherokee 13-0. It was Dvergsten’s 3rd career no hitter.
Bobby Boeckman led an eight hit attack going 3-for-3 with 4 RBI. The Tornadoes are now 7-4 and will play again Monday at ELC. The varsity game will be broadcast on 92.9FM KKIA
