Coon Picks Iowa

Storm Lake’s Jaidyn Coon announced Thursday that he has committed to Ben McCollum and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Coon is a four-star prospect and ranked 116th nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite. He is the third-ranked player in the state of Iowa’s 2026 high school class.

The 6-foot-7 forward averaged 22 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game during his senior season and helped the Tornadoes reach the semifinals on the 3A State tournament.

Coon was set to attend Creighton, but reopened his recruitment after longtime head coach Greg McDermott announced his retirement.

Outside of Iowa and Creighton, Coon has also been pursued by Nebraska and Illinois, among others. Drake offered him when McCollum was still the head coach of the Bulldogs.
