Jaidyn Coon scored a game high 26 points and in the process broke the school record for most points scored as Storm Lake defeated OA-BCIG 74-52 Saturday afternoon in Ida Grove.
Coon broke the previous mark of 1,439 points (which was set by 1970 Storm Lake graduate Ron Kennedy) with a thunderous dunk late in the 1st quarter. After the game Coon and Tornado coach Evan Franzmeier talked about the record.
Cam Boyd added 15 points and Timothy Yanga scored 13 helping Storm Lake improve to 9-1 on the year. Storm Lake will play Omaha Westside Monday afternoon at 1:30pm in the M-L-K Classic which is being hosted by Council Bluffs-Abraham Lincoln high school. The game will be broadcast on Mix 101.7 KAYL.
The Falcons were led by Evan Hoffman’s 17 points. They fall to 8-4 overall and will host MMCRU Monday.
In the girls game Saturday Storm Lake defeated the Falcons 46-36. Avery DeHaan scored 13 of her game high 15 points in the first half and Grace Kenkel added 14 as the Tornadoes won their second straight game and improve to 6-7 overall. It’s just the 2nd loss of the year for the Falcons who were led by Jenessa Kolar’s 11 points. OA-BCIG girls are now 11-2 and will host MMCRU Monday night. The Tornado girls play again Tuesday at Spirit Lake.
