Two Charged With Holding Someone Captive and more Following Search of Odebolt Residence

Two individuals were arrested on multiple charges, including holding someone against their will and extortion, after a search warrant was executed at an Odebolt residence.

According to the Sac County Sheriff’s Office, during the search at 316 Willow Street in Odebolt on Wednesday, law enforcement seized a firearm, ammunition, marijuana, methamphetamine, injectable steroids and unknown pills, along with assorted scales and other drug paraphernalia. Law enforcement also seized items related to an extortion and false imprisonment case they were initially investigating.

Law enforcement alleges that 34-year-old Edwin Diaz and his girlfriend 40-year-old Amy Hartwig held a female against her will during the early morning hours Wednesday. They allegedly forced the female to sign a piece of paper stating that drugs that were seized in an unrelated case relating to Diaz were hers. During the search of the residence, deputies located evidence that corroborated the victim’s statement.

Diaz and Hartwig were each charged with Extortion, False Imprisonment, and Obstruction of Emergency Communications. Diaz was also charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Diaz was booked into the Sac County Jail on an 11-thousand 300-dollar bond, and Hartwig was booked on a 63-hundred dollar bond.

The investigation is continuing, and more charges are expected.
