Three Storm Lake Minors Charged After Attempted Home Burglary

The Storm Lake Police Department has identified three local juveniles as the suspects in an attempted burglary that left a North Ontario Street home with significant damage last week.

Officers were called to a residence in the 1100 block of N. Ontario Street on Thursday after the homeowner reported an attempted break‑in. The victim told police the incident happened Wednesday at about 8 p.m., when three individuals repeatedly kicked the front door while trying to force their way inside. They weren’t able to get in and fled the area. Damage to the door was estimated at roughly $750.

By Thursday night, investigators had identified the suspects as an 11‑year‑old boy, a 12‑year‑old boy and a 13‑year‑old boy, all from Storm Lake.

Police say all three minors are charged with second-degree attempted burglary, a Class D felony, third-degree criminal mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor and trespassing, a simple misdemeanor.

The juveniles were issued referrals and released to a parent or guardian pending their appearance in juvenile court.
