A Storm Lake teenager faces multiple charges after police say he caused a disturbance, stole car keys, and damaged vehicles outside Hibbett Sports Monday evening.
Authorities report officers were dispatched to the store on Salebarn Road around 6:30 p.m. Police allege the 17‑year‑old male from Storm Lake entered a restricted storage area without permission, stole an employee’s car keys, and then entered the employee’s vehicle.
Investigators further allege the teen damaged another vehicle in the parking lot by kicking it, causing about $1,000 in damage.
When officers arrived, they say the juvenile refused commands and fled on foot. Following a brief pursuit, he was subdued and taken into custody without further incident.
The teen now faces multiple charges, including second degree burglary, a class C felony; third degree criminal mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor; third degree harassment; trespassing; disorderly conduct; and interference with official acts.
He was transported to the Cherokee Youth Emergency Services Center, where he is being held pending an appearance in juvenile court.
