Storm Lake Stop Ends in Felony Contraband Charge for California Man

A California man was arrested Friday afternoon in Storm Lake after police say he was driving with a revoked license and later brought contraband into the county jail.

Around 3:30 p.m., officers stopped a vehicle for speeding in the 100 block of Lake Avenue. The driver, 23‑year‑old Fabian Martinez Mendoza of San Jose, Calif., was taken into custody after police determined his license was revoked.

During the booking process at the Buena Vista County Jail, officers allege they found a THC vape pen concealed on Martinez Mendoza’s person. He was charged with driving while license revoked and possession of a hemp inhalation device, both serious misdemeanors, along with introduction of contraband into a correctional facility, a Class D felony.

Martinez Mendoza was held on a $5,600 bond.
