Storm Lake Out-Slugs Poky

The Storm Lake softball team defeated Pocahontas Area 10-8 in Storm Lake on Tuesday.

Pocahontas Area built a 3-0 early lead, which included a solo homerun by Katie Rierson in the 2nd. Cole Richardson’s RBI single in the bottom of the 2nd cut it to 3-1. The Tornadoes took the lead when MacKenzie Harder singled with the bases loaded, and an outfield error allowed all three runners, as well as Harder to score to put Storm Lake on top 5-3.

The Indians tied the game with two runs in the 5th, but Storm Lake answered with four in the bottom half, and another in the 6th on an RBI single by Maddy Raveling. After the first two batters were retired in the 7th, five consentive Indians reached base to make it a two-run game. Storm Lake hung on when Lillian Hoffman got a strikeout with runners on 2nd and 3rd.

Raveling pitched the first five innings to get the win. Storm Lake is now 6-4, and will visit Spirit Lake on Wednesday.

Addie Lawson drove in three runs for Poky. The Indians (5-5) host Storm Lake St. Mary’s on Wednesday.
