Storm Lake Man Charged in Child Abuse Investigation

The Storm Lake Police Department has arrested a local man following an investigation into child abuse allegations.

Authorities say they were notified Sunday, Jan. 25, of suspected abuse at a Storm Lake residence. Investigators allege that on Saturday, Jan. 24, 50‑year‑old Gilbert Palomares assaulted a child in his care, causing bodily injury.

During the investigation, police also uncovered a prior incident from Nov. 27 of last year, when Palomares allegedly assaulted an adult family member in the presence of a child.

As a result, Palomares faces multiple charges, including child endangerment causing injury and third offense domestic abuse assault, both class D felonies, along with child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor.

Police report Palomares surrendered himself on Wednesday and was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $12,000 bond.

The Storm Lake Police Department continues to investigate the case.
