Storm Lake Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident that injured a pedestrian in a wheelchair Sunday afternoon.
Officers were called to the intersection of North Lake Avenue and 12th Street at approximately 3:53 p.m. Witnesses told police the pedestrian was crossing 12th Street in a marked crosswalk when a northbound white pickup truck failed to yield and struck the individual. The truck did not stop, fleeing north on Lake Avenue.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.
Police immediately launched an investigation. Using Flock License Plate Reader cameras in the area, officers identified a suspect vehicle. That truck was later found parked and unoccupied in the 700 block of Chole Lane, showing damage consistent with the crash.
Investigators located the driver at a nearby residence and identified him as 34‑year‑old Myron Aron of Storm Lake. Aron was taken into custody without incident. Police allege Aron showed signs of impairment and transported him to the Buena Vista County Jail for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, Aron faces multiple charges, including leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, operating without a valid driver’s license, failing to yield to a pedestrian’s right of way, and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, all serious misdemeanors.
Aron was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held on a $4,600 bond.
