The Storm Lake Community School District is a recipient of the “Teacher and Paraeducator Registered Apprenticeship Pilot Grant.”
The announcement was made today (Thur) by Governor Kim Reynolds. The grant will help prepare Storm Lake High School students and adults throughout the community to receive a paraeducator certificate and an associate degree. The grant will also supply paraeducators with the opportunity to earn their bachelor’s degree as they work with students in the classroom.
Storm Lake and partnering districts will receive 6.2-million dollars through the grant. Partnering districts include Newell Fonda, Sioux Central, and Albert City Truesdale. Funding is provided by the American Rescue Plan Act.
Superintendent Dr. Stacey Cole says thanks to the grant, the district will be able to launch an innovative program that allows future educators to get the training and support they need to move to the next stage of their careers, and eventually fill much-needed teaching positions. The program will officially launch this fall.
