Democratic congressional candidate Stephanie Steiner of Sutherland will host an Election Night Watch Party on Tuesday, June 2, as results come in from Iowa’s three-way Democratic primary in the 4th Congressional District.
The event will take place at Okoboji Brewing Company, 3705 U.S. Highway 71 in Spirit Lake. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Steiner said primary elections play a key role in determining who appears on the November ballot.
“Primary elections are where voters make one of the most important decisions in our democracy,” Steiner said. “This is the election where voters decide who they want to see on the November ballot and who they believe is best prepared to represent Iowa’s 4th Congressional District.”
Steiner encouraged voters to participate in Tuesday’s primary.
“I have supporters who are Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and everything in between,” she said. “No matter your political background, your voice matters.”
Iowa uses a closed primary system, meaning voters must be registered with a political party to participate in that party’s primary. Steiner noted that voters may update their party registration at their polling place on Election Day or ahead of time through their County Auditor’s Office or the state’s online voter registration system.
Steiner said her campaign has focused on issues she hears from families and rural residents, including affordability concerns, access to healthcare, water quality, and Iowa’s rising cancer rates.
“I’m not a career politician or a political insider,” Steiner said. “I’m a wife, a mother of seven, a grandmother, a former women’s health nurse and a small livestock producer living in rural Iowa. I understand the challenges families face because I’ve lived them.”
The watch party will include food, drinks, and live music from local musician Sonya Johnsen as results come in from across northwest Iowa.
Steiner said she hopes the event provides an opportunity for community members to gather as the primary concludes.
“If elected, the people of Iowa’s 4th Congressional District will be my first priority,” she said. “I don’t come with political baggage. I come with life experience, and I will never forget who I am fighting for.”More information about Steiner’s campaign is available at SteinerforIowa.com.
