Shelter-in-Place Issued in Storm Lake; Man in Custody

Storm Lake Police responded to an incident last night involving an armed suspect. 

Officers were initially dispatched to the 700 block of Elmwood Drive following reports of a man threatening to shoot someone. The individual, later identified as 26-year-old Jose Ramon Ramirez of Storm Lake, was seen arriving on a bicycle and later on foot.

The situation shifted to the 700 block of Grand Avenue, where residents were advised to shelter in place. Ramirez was safely taken into custody with assistance from the Storm Lake Police K-9 Unit, department negotiators, and tactical teams from both the Storm Lake Police Department and the Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office.

Ramirez was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail at 10:17 p.m. on multiple charges, including threat of terrorism, first-degree burglary, and assault. His bond is set at $48,300.
