Over 900 Donated Blood at Storm Lake Blood Drives Last Year

The Storm Lake Community hosted 24 blood drives in the year 2022, which resulted in a total of 937 donors, 28 of which were first time donors.

The blood donations last year had the potential to save over 28-hundred local lives, according to the LifeServe Blood Center.

In December, 66 units of blood were collected from two blood drives hosted to support the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center, as well as over 130 other local hospitals that the LifeServe Blood Center serves. Those donations have the ability to save up to nearly 200 local lives.

Several donors hit milestones with their most recent donation. Douglas Reis reached 13 gallons of blood donated…Danny Richardson 12 gallons…Terry Bauer seven gallons…Sandy Pearson six gallons…Daniel Jones five gallons…David Mentzer two gallons…and Bruce Lesemann, Jeffery Loew, Shannon Crum, Jason Erickson, and Breanna Horsey all reached one gallon of blood donated.

Storm Lake blood drives scheduled in the month of January include…the Blue Blood Drive on Monday, January 9th from 11am to 4:30pm at King’s Pointe Resort…Friday, January 20th from 9am to 1pm at the United Methodist Church…and Tuesday, January 31st from 10am to 2:30pm at Buena Vista University.
