The Iowa Finance Authority has announced more than $12.2 million in grants to Local Housing Trust Funds across the state, supporting affordable housing initiatives for nearly 2,500 families.
Several northwest Iowa organizations are among the recipients.
The Council of Governments Housing, Inc. will receive just over $412,000 to serve Audubon, Carroll, Crawford, Greene, Guthrie, and Sac counties. The Heart of Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund is awarded $452,000 for projects in Calhoun, Hamilton, Humboldt, Pocahontas, Webster, and Wright counties. The Northwest Iowa Regional Housing Trust Fund, which includes Buena Vista, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola, Palo Alto, and Sioux counties, will receive $555,000. The Western Iowa Community Improvement Regional Housing Trust Fund is granted $415,000 to support housing needs in Cherokee, Ida, Monona, Plymouth, and Woodbury counties, excluding Sioux City.
The funding comes through the State Housing Trust Fund’s Local Housing Trust Fund Program, which directs resources to locally certified housing organizations. The grants are used for a range of efforts, including preserving existing homes, developing new housing, providing rental assistance, and supporting services for Iowans experiencing homelessness.
Since its creation in 2003, the State Housing Trust Fund has invested more than $140 million statewide, helping more than 41,000 households. This year’s awards are expected to leverage an additional $3.6 million in local financing, further strengthening housing opportunities across Iowa.
