Newell Pool Demolition Plans Move Forward

The City of Newell is preparing to move ahead with demolition of its closed public pool, following discussion at last Monday’s city council meeting.

Officials reviewed two bids for the project—one at $38,750 and another at $26,500—with both contractors proposing similar methods and timelines. The city plans to retain the existing pump house and surrounding fence to preserve utility access for nearby facilities.

Council members noted that the pool is no longer viable for renovation, citing extensive structural damage and ground moisture issues. Mayor Wayne Westergaard sums it up.

The city is working with Stockwell Engineering on plans for a new pool facility.

A final decision on the demolition bid is expected by the next council meeting on September 8. In the meantime, officials are coordinating with contractors to ensure the project can begin this fall.

Newell’s closed public pool is slated for demolition this fall. Following city council discussions and bid reviews, officials determined the facility was beyond repair due to structural and moisture issues. Plans for a new pool are underway with Stockwell Engineering, and a final decision on the demolition contract is expected by September 8.
