Missing Storm Lake Teen Found Safe; Juvenile Boy Faces Charges

Storm Lake Police say a missing 14‑year‑old girl has been found safe after a two‑day search, and a 13‑year‑old boy now faces charges for allegedly harboring her.

Authorities report the girl was first reported missing last Wednesday, Dec. 10. Officers searched several homes and areas but were unable to locate her that evening.

Two days later, on Friday, Dec. 12, investigators found the teen unharmed at a residence in the 400 block of Hudson Street. Police allege the 13‑year‑old boy who lived there intentionally allowed her to remain away from home. They also say he previously misled officers by giving false information about her whereabouts during the investigation.

The juvenile has now been charged with harboring a runaway, an aggravated misdemeanor. He was transported to the Cherokee Youth Emergency Services Center, where he awaits a juvenile court appearance.
