Storm Lake Mayor Meg McKeon is inviting local high‑school students to share what makes them proud to call Storm Lake home.
McKeon announced a new “Why I’m Storm Lake Proud” essay contest earlier this month, aimed at students in grades nine through 12 at both Storm Lake High School and St. Mary’s High School.
She introduced the program as a way to elevate youth voices in the community.
Essays must be original work and no more than 500 words. The deadline to submit is today (May 22). Students can email their entries to the city’s communications office at communications@stormlake.org or drop them off at city hall.
McKeon says the contest is designed not only to highlight student perspectives, but to encourage young people to see themselves as part of Storm Lake’s future.
The winning student will be named Storm Lake Mayor for a Day and will ride with McKeon in the Star Spangled Spectacular Parade on July 4th. Selected essays may also be featured on the city’s social media pages.
