Knights of Columbus Donation Supports Sioux Rapids Legion

The Storm Lake Knights of Columbus have contributed $1,000 to help the Graeber-Rowe American Legion Post in Sioux Rapids rebuild after last summer’s devastating floods.

The Legion building at 200 Main St. sustained significant damage during the June 2024 flooding, prompting ongoing restoration efforts. Knights of Columbus leaders said the donation reflects the group’s commitment to supporting veterans and strengthening local service organizations.

The funds were raised through the Knights’ Cans for a Cause program, which collects redeemable cans and bottles at three drop‑off sites in Storm Lake: the Hy‑Vee and Fareway parking lots, and the location just east of Laven’s Northwest Monuments. Proceeds from the community’s donated recyclables are directed to charitable projects across the region.

Legion officials say contributions like this will help restore the facility and allow the post to continue offering services, hosting events, and supporting area veterans once repairs are complete.

Community leaders note that the Cans for a Cause program shows how small, everyday donations can add up to meaningful support for local organizations.

The Knights of Columbus say they remain committed to both financial assistance and hands-on service in the community. Residents wishing to learn more about the Cans for a Cause program can email kccansforacause@gmail.com or apply for support through the group’s grant application. Community members are encouraged to continue donating redeemable cans and bottles at the designated collection sites.
