King’s Pointe GM Urges Pride, Warns Negativity Hurts Economy

At Monday night’s Storm Lake City Council meeting, King’s Pointe General Manager Amy Von Bank delivered a candid message: negative comments about the resort don’t just hurt her staff—they ripple across Storm Lake’s economy.

Von Bank said those perceptions can even lead to canceled reservations.

She reminded the council that King’s Pointe is one of Storm Lake’s largest employers, and its impact extends far beyond the resort itself.

Von Bank also addressed questions about resort financial reporting, assuring the council that new accounting software is being implemented to provide clearer, verified reports beginning in January.

But her strongest appeal was for community pride.

And while much of her message focused on challenges, Von Bank closed on a celebratory note. She thanked the 500 people who braved the snow for last Saturday’s Breakfast with Santa—an event she called the resort’s best yet.

Council members echoed her praise, calling the holiday tradition one of their favorites and commending Von Bank’s leadership in keeping King’s Pointe a cornerstone of Storm Lake tourism.
