King’s Pointe Drops Family Passes, Shifts to Individual Rates

Family passes at King’s Pointe Aquatic Center are on the way out.

During a Monday night work session focused on King’s Pointe passes and fees, the Storm Lake City Council heard from resort management, which outlined a shift to individual passes starting in 2026—a move that raised questions about affordability and the city’s budget.

King’s Pointe General Manager Amy Von Bank told the council that family passes have created challenges, and she suggested only offering individual passes for the next swim season.

Currently, a family season pass runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day and costs $350 for up to six family members living in the same household under city zoning rules. Families can add up to four additional children ages 0–12 at $75 each. A single season pass is $150.

Von Bank proposed lowering individual pass rates to $75 for children ages 11 and under and $100 for ages 12 and older, with a holiday presale offering discounted punch cards.

Councilperson Matt Ricklefs questioned whether the pricing would remain affordable.

City Manager Keri Navratil reminded the council that the outdoor water park is funded by the city’s general fund, which already budgets an $83,000 loss. King’s Pointe Resort operations are managed by third-party vendor S&L Hospitality, which oversees the hotel, indoor water park, mini golf, and Regatta restaurant.

City Finance Director Tyler Gibbons explained how the price change would affect the city’s finances.

The council approved authorizing a discounted holiday presale event, running Black Friday through Christmas, that strikes family passes but includes specials including a 50-punch water park card for $300, a 30-visit water-walking card for $60, and a 10-round golf punch card for $100.
