Four Charged in Pocahontas County Animal Neglect Case

Four individuals are facing charges following an animal neglect investigation in Pocahontas County.

Just after noon on Aug. 14, deputies from the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence at 117 Main St. in Palmer. The sheriff’s office was assisting the Animal Rescue League of Iowa and the Moffitt Animal Shelter after an anonymous tip reported possible neglect.

Authorities removed 10 dogs from inside the home and another four from a nearby camper. Investigators cited unsanitary living conditions as the reason for the animals’ removal.

The following individuals have been charged with Animal Neglect, a simple misdemeanor:

  • 61-year-old Bernadette Tevalan-Hernandez, six counts;
  • 42-year-old Grace Gonzalez, three counts;
  • 51-year-old Armando Sosa, one count;
  • 19-year-old Andrea Gonzalez, one count.
