A long‑standing Sac County business is receiving statewide recognition.
U.S. Senator Joni Ernst named Green Real Estate & Auction Company her Small Business of the Week for Sac County last week, honoring more than 130 years of service to western Iowa.
The business was founded in 1894 by Col. Festus J. Green and has remained in the family ever since. Today, it’s led by fifth‑generation owner Jim Green, who says carrying that legacy forward is both meaningful and motivating.
Ernst, a Republican from Red Oak, praised the company for helping Iowa families navigate land sales, estate transitions and agricultural transactions for more than a century — while adapting to meet the needs of modern farmers, landowners and rural communities.
Green says that ability to evolve has been key to staying relevant.
Green Real Estate & Auction specializes in residential and farmland sales, along with farm machinery and consignment auctions. The company’s newer location on the east edge of Sac City has allowed it to expand those services, says Green.
Green says one of the company’s strengths is intentionally staying small — something he believes helps maintain trust and personal connection.
Even as the business embraces new tools and technology, he says its core values remain the same.
Green also credited Sac City Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Crystal Hanrahan and the broader community for supporting the business and helping it thrive. Hanrahan nominated the business for the Ernst award.
Ernst’s recognition is part of her effort to highlight one small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties during the current congressional term.
