Cherokee Teams Sweep Tornadoes In Tuesday Hoops

Kenna Mongan scored 21 points including the 1,000th point of her career leading the Cherokee girls to a 63-44 win over Storm Lake. Adeeya Yanga led Storm Lake with 17 points and Grace Kenkel chipped in with ten.

Cherokee evens their conference record at 1-1 while improving to 7-2 overall. The Tornadoes are now 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the Lakes Conference.

In the boys game, Cherokee used a 10-0 4th quarter run while going10-for-10 at the free throw line in the last two minutes of the game helping them to a 76-65 win over the visiting Tornadoes.

Storm Lake held a 35-29 lead at the half and the game was tied at 53-53 heading into the final quarter. Justin Guynn scored 17 of his team high 21 points in the 2nd half and Jaidyn Coon added 20 along with a team high 12 rebounds for the Tornadoes who fall to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in the Lakes.

The Braves were led by Coy Lewis who scored 18 of his game high 23 in the first half he also grabbed 13 rebounds.Cherokee is now 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

Cherokee teams will play again Thursday vs. East Sac County and the Tornadoes will host Alta-Aurelia Thursday night starting at 6pm, the games will be broadcast on Mix 101.7 KAYL.
