BV Supervisors Approve New Drone, Safety Equipment for Sheriff’s Department

The Buena Vista County Board of Supervisors this (Tues) morning approved a new drone and safety equipment for the sheriff’s department using CARES Act funds.

BV Sheriff Kory Elston said the department obtained their current drone via a grant in 2017. He said the current drone has a short battery life, and they can’t get new batteries for it. Elston said the new drone they plan to get for 33-thousand dollars is being used in several other Iowa counties…(audio clip below :18 )

Detective Sergeant Joey Speers, who is in charge of the entry team, said the department also determined they need to have better communication equipment…(audio clip below :30 )

15 headsets will be obtained for a total of 17-thousand dollars.

Three shields will also be purchased with CARES Act dollars. The cost of a big shield is 85-hundred dollars, and the cost for two smaller shields is just over one-thousand dollars total.
